Local events in June

It feels like summer has arrived in our vally, and this is the time when Ägeri comes alive. There are things to do with the kids, a couple of outdoor events, and much more. Here's what's coming up in and around the Ägerital.

Uferlos Wednesday, 3 June: 18:00 (food) / 19:00 (concert) Location: Festplatz am See, Oberägeri

If you have not been to Uferlos before, this is the one to put in your diary. Now in its 12th year, this open-air concert on the lakefront in Oberägeri brings together music from very different corners of the world, and the lineup this time is genuinely good. Local singer-songwriter Zoe Fengari, who is from Oberägeri herself, opens the evening. After her, Zuger alternative rock band Wake takes the stage, followed by Buzz' Ayaz, a quartet from Nicosia whose sound blends Cypriot folk, psychedelic rock, funk and electronics into something you really cannot put in a box. The food is handled by the El Toro team from 18:00, with the concert starting at 19:00. Tickets are CHF 16 in advance and CHF 20 at the door, and anyone under 18 gets in for free. Check kulturaegeri.ch for tickets and details.

Sigi in the Middle at Passpartout Bar

Saturday, 13 June

Passpartout Bar

One of our local favorite gals is grabbing the mic with her incredible band at Passebartout. Sigi in the Middle gets you smiling and on your feet dancing to some of your favorites. Join us as we make this a night out. Meet up with other Ägeri High Heels members and enjoy an evening out here in the valley.

Seifkisten Rennen

Sunday, 14 June

Wissenschwändi, Unterägeri

We wrote about this one in the March edition of our newsletter, and if you missed your chance to sign up, that is all right because this is just as much fun to watch. Local kids race their homemade soapboxes down the hill at Wissenschwändi in Unterägeri, and the atmosphere is exactly the kind of wholesome, community weekend morning you want in the summer. There is also a tractor ride for little ones who are too young to race. Come along, find a good spot on the hill and cheer them on.

Tag der offenen Tür, Werkhof und Feuerwehr (Open Day, Municipal Works and Fire Station)

Saturday, 20 June

08:00 to 11:30

Werkhof und Feuerwehr, Unterägeri

The municipality of Unterägeri is opening the doors of the Werkhof and the fire station, and it is a brilliant excuse to have a proper look at what goes on behind the scenes. If you have curious kids who have ever wondered what firefighters actually do on a regular day, or what the municipal works team gets up to, this is a great chance to find out together. Staff will be on hand to chat and show you around. It is a morning event, so you could easily combine it with the rest of your Saturday.

Greek Nights at Restaurant Lago Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 June / Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 August / Thursday 18, Friday 19 and Saturday 20 September

Restaurant Lago, Ägeribad, Oberägeri

If you love Greek food, Restaurant Lago has you covered this summer. On selected weekends from June through September, the kitchen goes full Mediterranean with souvlaki, dolmas, olives, flatbreads and tzatziki. And while you are checking the calendar, it is worth keeping an eye on the wider Lago summer events programme too. There are themed grill weekends, live acoustic music, a visiting Irish band, local singer-songwriters and more running all the way through to the end of September. Head to aegeribad.ch for the full picture.

Zuger Seefest Saturday, 27 June

Zug lakefront, Zug

This one is worth the short trip into Zug city. The annual Seefest takes over the lakefront for a full evening of live music, food and drink stands, and a kids' programme that will keep younger ones happily occupied while you enjoy the sunset. This year's acts include Grooveline (funk and soul), local newcomers Friday and The Valley of Mantis, and cover band CUSP, with DJs rounding out the night.

For the kids there is face painting, a children's band and a slackline and balance course. The legendary Sunset Dance rounds off the evening. It is a lovely, relaxed event with a real community feel. Keep an eye on zug.sport for updates.

Autokino (drive in cinema)

Various days in August Oberägeri

The Autokino Ägeri runs for nine days in August and there is genuinely something for everyone. Evening screenings combine the classic drive-in experience with an open-air option right by the water, featuring food, drinks, and live music before the film starts.

The Family Day on Wednesday 5 August is completely free (you still need a ticket to help them plan) and kicks off at 14:00 with a fairy-tale hour, face painting, and a bouncy castle, before the film starts at 21:00. Kids and their grown-ups can even camp on-site overnight afterwards.

There is also a special Bulli-Night on 1 and 8 August for VW bus owners, if that happens to be your thing. If you are a Raiffeisen MemberPlus member, you get 50 percent off your tickets. Check autokino-aegeri.ch for the full programme and tickets.

Ägeriseelauf

24 July, 19:00

Start & Finish: Oberägeri

Now in its 26th edition, the Ägeriseelauf is one of those local events that is genuinely worth joining, whether you are a regular runner or just getting started. The full route covers 14.14 km around the lake, starting and finishing at the Seeplatz in Oberägeri.

Not ready for the full distance? There is a pair relay option where you split the route with a partner, and the second pair runner even gets a free boat ride across the lake to their starting point, which is a nice touch. The race starts in the evening, so the summer light along the water makes for a pretty good backdrop. Head to aegeriseelauf.com for registration and details.

Sunset Dancing in Raten

Every Friday from 29 May: 19:30 - Midnight

Raten

This one is for anyone who loves to dance and doesn't mind a bit of fresh mountain air. Every Friday evening from 29 May through to 11 September, Raten hosts an outdoor dancing event with a DJ who takes requests. Discofox, Jive, Salsa, Bachata, Cha-Cha-Cha, Waltz, you name it. The dance floor is set up next to the garden terrace, and the views are genuinely spectacular. The event goes ahead regardless of the weather (moving indoors to The Bandits in Tuggen if it rains).
