Getting everyone outdoors is always a crowd pleaser, even if getting them out the door takes a bit of encouragement. Aegeri offers some wonderful hikes, scenery and Alpwirtshaften for a snack or lunch (see last month’s article). However, if you have younger and older legs a like, two hikes really stand out.
Summer in Sattel
In summer, the winter wonderland above us turns into a summer paradise. Why we love it in short … playgrounds, multiple hikes, summer toboggan runs, easy to get to and food options nearby.

Offers: Playgrounds with jumping castles, multiple hike options from kids to more advanced hikers. There are also hikes with activities and themes for families.
Food options: Grill pits and restaurants
How to reach: There is a lot of parking at the bottom of the Gondola and then a short Gondola ride gets you to the top. This is great for older and smaller guests who may not want to hike up. There is also the possibility to hike up from the bottom, but it is steep to hike up. With public transport, you take the Bus 601 from Unterägeri to Oberägeri Station, and then Bus 609 towards Rothenthurm, which will take you directly to Sattel, Gondelbahn.
Good for family: Yes
Good for older visitors: Yes
Wheelchair access: Yes; possibility to hire wheelchairs at the top

Zugerberg “Zugiblubbi” Theme Trail This is a very easy stroller and wheelchair friendly themed trail. Why we love it in short … the trail is mainly in the shade, so it is a great activity on a hot day. It is probably better suited to younger children.

Offers: A 5,4km loop hike where children will visit different diamond stations and activities, by completing the activity sheet, children go into a draw to win a prize. The trail starts at the top of the Funicular (Zugerbergbahn), so the action starts straight away. There is also a nice big, shaded playground surrounded by grill pits which means you can easily spend a few hours enjoying the outdoors.
Food options: Grill pits and restaurants
How to reach: The easiest way to get up is via the Funicular. Parking can be found at the bottom at the station. There is also parking at the top, but this will mean you will need to walk a fair distance back to the start of the trail and the playground. Public transport is also very easy from Zug and you will want to catch the 603 to the stop Zug, Schöengg.
Good for family: Yes
Good for older visitors: Yes
Wheelchair access: Yes the theme trail is wheelchair friendly
